The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the food system to its core. The bright spots during these trying months has been the resiliency of our local and regional food systems that are connecting producers directly with consumers. Many questions have arisen as to the staying power of this surge, and whether it will be sustainable in a post-COVID19 world. The Croatan Institute provided an update about their survey to identify capital needs that will address operational pinch points and bottlenecks, whether related to marketing, inventory, labor, infrastructure, or other business needs.
Update: The Croatan Institute White Paper, Regenerative Agriculture and COVID-19 Capital Needs, presents an analysis of the survey results, combined with findings from in-depth interviews with individuals representing farming to processing to distributions interests.
