On 29 April 2020, the TIFS Learning Community met with Five Suns Foods and an investor in the company. Five Sun Foods is developing ecologically and socially sustainable, and scalable, processes for growing, harvesting and distributing chocho as a food ingredient. Chocho is a legume with high levels of protein, low sugar content and hardy adaptability. Chocho has been a consistent staple of the diet in Ecuador and Andean Region of South America. Five Suns Foods is an example of a blended finance investment in a crop supply chain. We are grateful to Five Suns Foods for sharing their amazing story and for trying out the TIFS true cost accounting rapid assessment.
